THE ONLY JAPANESE SPEAKEASY IN DALLAS | AKAI
How does a hideaway sounds after dinner, or better yet, what if we tell you that you can feel like a Samurai going on a hidden journey, after dinner… Take your chances and be part of one of a kind experience at the only Japanese inspired speakeasy in Dallas, AKAI. That is, if you can find it.
Only a few know where AKAI is located. If you pay attention, maybe you would be a lucky one. Located in the Arts District of the city of Dallas, AKAI’s journey starts right at the front of the restaurant where only the most clever know how to get to the entrance. There is where your journey begins, as you will get escorted to your destination, passing the secret entrance through halls, walls, doors, and a kitchen… until you find the hidden symbol.
Inside, be enchanted by the best atmosphere, which represents AKAI to perfection. An LED red dragon on the ceiling will greet you, along with their moody ambiance that will take you to the end of the bar where a mural of fighting Samurais will impact you. AKAI is named after the Japanese word AKA or AKAI, which means RED. In traditional Japanese culture, Red represents strong emotions rather than ideas alongside energy, vitality, heat, and power, everything that AKAI is.
AKAI is the perfect hideaway for an evening of relaxation with good music and great cocktails. Only here, you will get the opportunity to experience the best Japanese Whiskeys, widely arranged in their collection. We suggest you to try their exquisite “Watasumi,” which contains, gin, St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur, lemon juice, prickly pear juice and egg white (pictured above).
If you want to find out more about AKAI, we invite you to go and find out for yourself. We know you won’t be disappointed… that if you can find it. Share your experience with us at @newtodallasguide on Instagram and Facebook. We hope to see you there!
Akai is open only Thursday- Saturday from 8:00 PM – 2:00 AM.
Located at 1740 Crockett St., Dallas… that’s all.
